EVM Insight™
EVM Insight™ provides comprehensive, real-time visibility into virtual infrastructures, virtual desktop, and private cloud environments. Automated discovery, continuous tracking, and real-time monitoring combined with automatic, policy-based classification enable role-driven visibility. Comprehensive visibility includes real-time, configuration, capacity, and utilization information correlated with event and performance data. EVM Insight maintains current and historical information including change tracking, baselining, configuration drift, and relationship mapping.
Challenges
Enterprise IT organizations need real-time, comprehensive visibility to effectively manage their complex virtual infrastructures. Many are trying to manage these real-time and dynamic virtual environments using legacy tools which were not designed for virtual environments or patchwork solutions which are poorly integrated, don’t scale and can’t support a distributed infrastructure. Many tools can’t keep up with the real-time changes that occur in virtual environments and as a result the information they provide is out-of-date, incomplete and unreliable. The challenges of integrating disparate tools, data reconciliation and high-latency render these approaches ineffective for operational decisions and real-time management. As a result IT organizations don’t have a current and reliable view of the environment and they end up with inaccurate or impaired visibility, incurring higher costs, decreased reliability and longer problem resolution times.

EVM Insight™ provides immediate time to value, employing instant-on, agent-free technology. EVM insight™ supports virtual server, desktop, and private cloud environments with federation across distributed datacenters as well as cross-platform support. It also supports a wide range of virtual infrastructures from small workgroup, departmental, or divisional environments to very large scale, distributed enterprise environments. Deep visibility into resource trending, current and future bottlenecks, usage and chargeback, resource allocation and waste is shown through classification-based dashboards, reporting, charts and analytics.
Capabilities
- Instant-on, Agent Free, Rapid Time-to-Value – Install, discover, and get visibility into your virtual infrastructure in minutes without the delay and challenges of deploying and maintaining agents.
- Comprehensive and Real-Time Virtual Infrastructure Visibility – Single Pane of Glass, low latency visibility across management domains and federation of multiple datacenters and platforms.
- Delegated Administration and Role-Based Visibility- Fine-grained delegation based on job, role, and function across business, IT, and location using existing enterprise directory.
- Virtual Infrastructure and Resource Optimization – Increase density and maximize return on investment by identifying over-allocated, misconfigured, and wasted resources.
- Streamlined Operations and Administration – Increase operator efficiency and reduce problem resolution times by providing a single pane of glass and comprehensive set of integrated management tools.
- Manages Growth and Controls VM Sprawl - Automatically discover track, assess, and identify VMs from provisioning through operations to retirement including aging and detecting idle, unused, and unmanaged (orphaned) VMs.
- Advanced Capacity Planning and Resource Utilization – Understand current capacity, factors driving utilization, future resource needs, best fit workload placement, as well as current and future bottlenecks.
- Cost Allocation with Usage and Chargeback – Determine who is using which resources to allocate costs, create and implement chargeback models.
Features
- Comprehensive Real-Time Discovery and Tracking – automatically discovers and continuously tracks virtual infrastructure and VMs capturing in-depth, configuration information, performance, and real-time events using patent-pending, agentless SmartState™ technology.
- Virtual Infrastructure Configuration Management - tracks settings for management systems, datastores, clusters, resource pools, and hosts such as network, CPU, memory, firewall settings, advanced settings, accounts, patches, HA settings, root access, and reservations.
- VM Configuration Management - tracks software, applications, settings, patches, service packs, services, accounts, firewall settings, network configuration, storage, allocation, free space, snapshots, thin/thick provisioning, packages, files, MD5s, registry keys, services, and tools.
- Relationship Mapping and Genealogy – shows logical and physical relationships including containers, folders, datastores to hosts, virtual machines, and managements, clusters to resources, and genealogy of virtual machines.
- Automatic Policy-based Classification – enables infrastructure components and VMs to be automatically classified and tagged along business, IT, and workload categories. These classifications are used to control role-based visibility, report, and alerting.
- Baselining, Comparison, and Drift Analysis - enables the identification and articulation of fine-grained differences between configuration versions, deviations over time, genealogical changes, and ad hoc comparisons.
- Capacity, Utilization, and Performance Monitoring - captures infrastructure utilization and performance metrics and dynamically calculates capacity. Tracks usage by classification and identifies current and future bottlenecks as well as providing resource trending.
- Reporting, Analytics, and Searching - delivers a rich set of reports, graphs, and analytics with customizable role-based views. Formats include txt, csv, and pdf, and can be delivered by e-mail. Reports include VM Sprawl, Configuration, Auditing, Software, Patches, Operator Actions, and Events. Supports both adhoc and saved searches that can be reused for views and reporting as well as sharing between users and groups.
