ManageIQ Delivers Management, Automation and Security Enhancements for VMware vSphere 4

Extends Enterprise Virtualization Management Suite with VMware vCenter, VMsafe, vCenter Orchestrator Integration

Mahwah, New Jersey-- September 1, 2009 - ManageIQ, an emerging leader in the management and automation of virtualized environments and a VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP), today announced support for VMware vSphere™ 4 in its Enterprise Virtualization Management™ (EVM) Suite. The EVM suite, powered by ManageIQ’s portfolio of patent-pending technologies, provides the essential insight, control and automation enterprises need to optimize the manageability, reliability and security of virtual infrastructures.

"Enterprises are leveraging VMware's virtualization technology to take advantage of emerging computing models and fundamentally transform the way they deliver services, from real-time IT infrastructures to internal and external clouds.” said Joseph Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of ManageIQ, “EVM enables enterprises to manage these dynamic virtual infrastructures and emerging cloud environments with advanced automation, role-based delegation and self-service capabilities, delivering significant cost savings while enhancing reliability and agility. At the same time, EVM’s policy-based control and enforcement across VM lifecycles, operations, and configuration management ensure that virtualized infrastructures stay secure, auditable and compliant."

ManageIQ’s agent-free, instant-on EVM Suite has been extended with platform support and integration for VMware vSphere, including:

  • Enterprise Federation for vCenter – EVM seamlessly federates vCenter 4 instances with previous vCenter versions across datacenters, providing a “single pane of glass” for management activities including searching, reporting, capacity and utilization, monitoring and alerting, trending and forecasting, baselines and timelines, and analytics.
  • VI 4 – EVM provides continuous visibility, real-time policy-based control, and adaptive automation for VMware VI4 infrastructures. Its unique SmartState™ agent-free architecture has been extended to support ESX4 hosts as well as ESX4i embedded hosts.
  • VMsafe Security – Using VMsafe, EVM enforces compliance, security and configuration standards at critical VM control points. Automatic enforcement of VMsafe configuration settings ensures that VMs are protected.
  • vCenter Orchestrator – Orchestrator integration enables policy-based, automatic execution of workflows, as well as selection from the EVM Virtual Management Interface. Workflows can be precisely configured based on context-sensitive SmartTag™ classifications.
  • Virtual Management Database™ - New and updated management information for vSphere environments is discovered and tracked in the EVM VMDB™, providing a comprehensive virtual management repository combining virtual infrastructure, storage, network, VM, snapshot, software, settings, patches, service packs, accounts, services, events, performance, access, relationship and genealogy. Changes are tracked in real-time to ensure that the VMDB is always current and up to date.
  • Delegated Administration/Distributed Operations – EVM extends vSphere and vCenter with fine-grained visibility, control and delegation of operational and administrative activities. Delegation of visibility, control and automation is automatic, based on fine-grained classifications using patent-pending SmartTag™ technology.
  • Self Service – EVM provides precise and secure self-management for vSphere environments, including delegation of VM provisioning, lifecycle management and operational activities based on fine-grained classifications. Self-Management enables and empowers users and increases service levels and agility, while offloading virtual administration and operations teams.
  • Resource Utilization and Capacity Planning – EVM provides resource utilization tracking for vSphere environments, including detailed visibility and reporting by SmartTag™ classifications for resource usage allocation, chargeback and “showback”. Classification-based analytics, capacity planning, and trending and forecasting, as well as monitoring and alerting, are supported.
